Although Australia is known as the country with the best beaches in the world, it also has around nine snowboarding resorts located close to the borders of New South Wales and Victoria. These are easy to reach from Melbourne and Sydney. There are bus rides or drive yourself with the obligatory chains. The highest mountain is Mt Kosciuszko at 2228m above sea level. At one stage, these resorts were compared to those of NZ, Europe and North America and were found to be lacking in consistent snow. This has changed of recent years with perfect snowmaking facilities available when needed. There is always good après available and all the resorts have become popular with both Australians and now with international visitors loving the terrain, parks and special Events.
